The day has come.
Following the catastrophic, totally unforeseen and unexpected failure of my Seagate Goflex Agent 3TB USB2.0 ext HDD, I have come to the tough and painful decision to finally give up on one of my most devoted hobbies. Archiving of digital media.
I have been doing that since 1996. First with cheap DVDs, and after which they failed me, moving on to HDDs.
Prior to making this decision, I had tried to revive the failed HDD, as well as exploring other options such as Solid State HDDs and even Cloud Storage... as of today, they are just too expensive to be considered viable options.
After much consideration, the conclusion was to totally cut off this hobby of mine. A hobby that I had been diligently doing, and probably helped define me. I must admit, it felt like a chore sometimes. The never ending back logs and the lack of a competent enough computer to help me carry out this hobby easier... Perhaps this is a calling to liberate myself from this bottomless pit.
Nevertheless, I have made the decision and like all other decisions I have made, I shall stick with it with.
